I thought I made this term up, but of course there is nothing new under the sun. So, I don’t who has said or done what in the name of theocratic anarchism, but to me it sounds fun.
I was trying to think of how my Utopia would function, and I was playing with words like Divine Monarchy and Theocracy. But these relate to systems that are currently being used and are quite crazy, often where somebody ultimately says that they are either a god or that they are second to God, or God’s ordained ruler. Massively dangerous claims! First of all it reeks of pride and secondly God reveals God’s nature and plans to all those who ask and believe. Which is how I came to the anarchy part. Not that I think there should be no rules, so I suppose anarchy is not the right word but its the closest I can think of, but I think its just silly to think that anybody can claim to be the sole recipient of instructions from God and so in this system all men are equally in charge of lovingly enacting the “law”.
The only real law is love God and love one another. Every action can be found to be in line or out of line with this.
Those who best understand love are expected to help clarify what is loving in any given situation where it cannot be agreed upon by others. So in that sense anybody who is wise with either age or intellect is a sort of judge.
There is no need for currency or formal trading because all needs are met out of duty to brotherly-love. Anyone with excess will have no reason to hang on to that excess if his compatriot is in need. People are responsible to themselves and their own families and friendship groups firstly. So the incentive to work is the need to feed and meet the needs of family and friends. If family and friends have no immediate need, then there is no immediate need to work, and you can enjoy the arts and creativity. Or perhaps your family would be approached by another family who is in need and out of love you will give of your excess.
There would be no need to protect your land or resources, because they have no value beyond their nutritional or shelter value. The only time it would be tricky would be if there was a drought or famine or something and food is really hard to come by. In which case there would need to be a much wider communication network, so that the excess in far off lands and unaffected lands can be sent to the struggling ones.
I guess ultimately this would come down to family groups, and hierarchy in family groups would be the only real system of government.
Essentially there is no reason for crime if there is no value attached to things, or if there is no reason to withhold things from those who need them.
Anyway, that’s what I reckon Heaven is like.
